Overview

Helicopter & Winter Snowshoe Adventure — Knik Glacier & Alpine Wonderland

Swap city streets for sparkling snowfields on a winter escape that blends a scenic helicopter flight with a guided snowshoe trek in the mountains above the Knik River Valley. Departing from Alaska Glacier Lodge, you’ll lift over frosted spruce and braided rivers toward the icy giants of Southcentral Alaska, then touch down near tree line to strap on snowshoes and wander through a quiet, snow-draped landscape. It’s the perfect cold-season pairing: big mountain views from the air, and fresh tracks in pristine powder on the ground.

About the Experience

From Alaska Glacier Lodge, soar into the Chugach foothills with sweeping views of the Knik Glacier, Lake George, and the famed Great Gorge of the Knik—recognized as a National Natural Landmark for its dramatic beauty. Your pilot-guide narrates the region’s glacial geology and wildlife as you approach the landing zone just above the treeline.

After a quick orientation, your guide fits you with snowshoes and trekking poles and shares simple tips to “shoe” with confidence—no prior experience required. Then it’s time to meander through a snow-covered wonderland, pausing for photos of crystalline ridgelines, wind-sculpted drifts, and distant glacier faces. Expect an unhurried pace with plenty of opportunities to take in the silence and scenery. Mid-hike, enjoy a tasty trail snack from Kat’s Epic Trail Bites (naturally gluten-free), before your return flight reveals new angles of the valley bathed in winter light.
