This is a must and worth the cost to see the real Alaska!!! My husband and I are not new to Alaska and glaciers, but this was our first time in a helicopter and trekking across the ice, and it definitely won't be our last. We did the 2-hour glacier trek with our tour guide Ann and 3 others in August. We were the last group of the day and for about an hour, we were the only people on the glacier. It was an absolutely incredible experience exploring the landscape looking for waterfalls and hopping over glacial rivers, and of course drinking the glacier water! We really enjoyed the flight to and from Mendenhall as well. We flew through the mountains, over the glacier and ice field, and spotted waterfalls and beautiful sights along the way. Our tour guide Ann, our heli pilot, everyone at Northstar and our drivers were all wonderful and really enhanced the experience. We got lucky with a cloudy day so that you could really see the deep blues in the glacier. As far as the temperature, I got warm and had to roll up my sleeves about halfway through the trek, so if you tend to handle outdoor activity well in 50+° don't over-layer yourself too much since you won't have anywhere to store layers you may need to shed. I had on a beanie, tank top, sweater, and the jacket they provide, and regular leggings and the pants they provide. I'm very small-framed but maybe get hot more easily than others. The wind was a bit chilly at first but I warmed up quick despite us not having any direct sun. You won't regret exploring Alaska like this.

If you can manage the steep cost of this trip, don’t hesitate! Once in a lifetime experience. Well worth the cost. Our guides, Ann and John were knowledge, helpful and friendly. As was our pilot whose name I forget. Northstar Trekking is incredibly well run and efficient and they provide everything you’ll need. One note, you need to be of good health and active to do this trip. If not, you probably won’t enjoy yourself.

Logan & Sue gave us a wonderful trek! The weather was absolutely incredible so that was a major plus. From the pickup at the dock, to getting briefed at the shop, to the helicopter ride and then the amazing glacier trek, this company really goes the extra mile. It’s a pricey experience but highly recommended 🙂

This is the second time I have been on this tour. They are professional, knowledgeable and make it very enjoyable and fun. Glacier was beautiful! The mountains, the snow and ice, the clouds, waterfalls and on and on! Flew up and back. Took the long way there to show us the country some. Walked around about an hour. Got to drink pure glacier water. Note: it's very cold!!

Had a once-in-a-lifetime helicopter tour of Mendenhall Glacier here. They fitted us out in all the necessary gear and gave us lots of time to trek the glacier, take photos, ask questions, and drink the water. The pilot and guides were all very helpful and knowledgeable.
